Padre Island National Seashore

Are you looking for a place to visit this summer that has natural beauty and pure relaxation? If so, the Padre Island National Seashore is your spot. Load up your friends and family in your Temple Ford car or truck and reconnect with nature. There are a wide variety of things to do leaving endless opportunities for everyone to enjoy something new and beautiful.

If you’re traveling with children, this is their chance to become official Junior Rangers. This program is intended for children ages 5 to 13. They are provided with a booklet that contains activities which will help them learn the secrets that make Padre Island so extraordinary. Explore the area and do the booklet activities together as a family. Once it is completed, give the booklet to the park ranger and your child can be sworn in as an official National Park Junior Ranger and be given a ranger badge.

Traveling with a motorhome? Many RVer’s enjoy staying at the Bird Island Basin also known as the BIB campsite. Camping is first come first served here and RVs are welcome though no hookups are provided. The Island campgrounds do offer RV dump stations along with water filling stations. Tghere is a bathhouse with showers that are within walking distance of the Visitors Center.

Many guests enjoy visiting this island for the fishing opportunities as well. Padre Island has become one of the biggest hot spots for this hobby. Fishing does require a state issued fishing license along with a saltwater stamp. You can easily pick one up outside the park at any tackle shop or gas station.

We hope you packed your binoculars because you’re in for a birding treat here. This location is known for having more bird species than any other city within the United States. Padre Island National Seashore spans over 130,000 acres making it an exceptional place for avid bird watchers. For the last 10 years running, the city of Corpus Christi where the park is located has won the contest for being the birdiest city in the U.S. Come and enjoy the crisp sea air and be lulled to sleep by the water splashing against the shoreline. The friendly staff at Johnson Brothers Ford wish you a safe and happy journey.

Eco-Friendly With Ford

Everyone is looking for ways to be more green and to be more eco-friendly in their day to day life. If you are ready to make that step to living more eco-friendly, even where your car is concerned, here are some tips from your Temple Ford dealer.

In order to get better mileage for your vehicle and reduce your emissions, remove excess weight. The more stuff you have in your car, it will use up to 2 percent more gas. Take a look in the trunk and unload some of that junk.

Do your part by driving green. This means avoid driving aggressively. It’s one of the main reasons we waste fuel. Speeding and coming to sudden stops along with jerky movements all contribute to bad fuel economy. Also remember to turn off your car and not to idle in traffic. Your vehicle’s engine is actually running less efficiently while sitting stationary. An idling car also puts out toxic emissions that harm the envrionment.

Maintain the correct PSI in your tiresI. This is not only good for the environment, but is also good for your wallet. The proper PSI can be found in the driver’s side door or in your owner’s manual. Properly inflated tires last longer and increase your gas mileage by over 3 percent.

Think green about parking. If you have the chance, park in a shaded area or garage during hot weather. Keeping your car shaded means less fuel evaporates. It also decreases the amount of energy needed to cool your car off when you get in. Speaking of cooling, if it’s a beautiful day and the air feels great, roll down the windows and enjoy. This will cut down on running your AC and save on fuel costs by 13 percent.

Keep your vehicle properly maintained. Make sure to keep up with regular tune-ups. This is important when it comes to keeping your car running efficiently. A properly maintained vehicle will result in fewer emissions and the usage of less gas. It’s important to keep your car clean and free of debris. You can still wash your car and be green while doing so. Pick out eco-friendly soaps such as Simple Green. Wash your car on the lawn so the toxins can be absorbed and neutralized back into the soil instead of flowing into the storm drain.

If you remember these simple tips, we can all do our part to help the environment. Have fun finding even more ways to be eco-friendly from the folks over at Johnson Brothers Ford.

About Ford Trucks

The Ford brand has been around for decades and is a household name. More often than not, if someone were to ask you to name a couple of different trucks, chances are one of them would probably be the Ford F150. This model has become the largest and best-selling in the industry and there’s no shortage of reasons why that is. When you want a tough and dependable truck that is great on handling and load capacity, you turn to the F150, which made its debut as early as 1975. But of course, this isn’t the only truck Ford manufactures.

Ford has had a rich history of automobiles that dates from the turn of the 20th century. The very first Ford truck was built in 1900. Seventeen years later, they introduced the Model T One-Ton truck, which incorporated the very first chassis designed specifically for trucks. This was huge for the company and by 1925, the first pickup with a cargo box appeared. It also had an adjustable tailgate and heavy duty rear springs.

Model A and B were introduced in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The F-Series was born in 1948 and marked a turning point in truck production. The first factory-built F250 was offered, beginning in 1959, which had four-wheel drive. Naturally, as the needs changed over the years, the trucks did, too. Ride quality was improved with the invention of twin I-beam front suspension in 1965 and the name “Ranger” was used in describing the styling for a line of pickups. They also unveiled the first four-door version of the F250 the same year.

The 1980s saw improvement by leaps and bounds with better interior quality, better engines, and the SuperCab models. Safety was reinforced and driver’s side air bags were made standard by 1994. Over the course of this company’s history with trucks, it is apparent that the designs only get better and better. The quality, safety, value, and dependability of Ford trucks have made it the top-selling truck on the market. But don’t take our word for it. Come in to your Temple Ford dealer today and check out our great line of Ford trucks or other vehicles for yourself.

President’s Day Road Trip

Lyndon B. Johnson, Time cover January 1, 1965, "Man of the Year"

One holiday that doesn’t get as much notice as it should is President’s Day. This special day honors all of the presidents we’ve had since our country’s birth in 1776.

It primarily began as a day of celebration in honor of our nation’s first president, George Washington. Our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was also born in the month of February, and so the third Monday in February of every year has been dubbed President’s Day. Let’s not only commemorate these great leaders, but all of the ones who have served this great nation.

Some people simply enjoy having the day off or the long weekend that sometimes precedes this holiday. For others, sitting at home just will not do. If you’re looking for something more interesting to do this President’s Day weekend, take a road trip with your Ford through the amazing state of Texas and see where a few of the presidents were born or lived.

The first president on our list was born in Stonewall, Texas. Lyndon B. Johnson was the 36th president, and he was born, raised, and passed away at his ranch on land that was passed down from his ancestors. His ranch and surrounding land has been turned into a National Historic Park that you may visit any day of the year. They have guided tours of all areas, including his childhood home, the Johnson Settlement, and the Texas White House.

Heading due northwest of Stonewall lies Midland, the town that George W. Bush calls home. There you’ll find the 43rd president’s childhood home. It has also now become a protected Presidential Site. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and has been restored to its original 1950s look. Learn about two of our country’s presidents, their families, and their work during office.

If you have more time on your long weekend, take the drive on over Northeast of Midland to Denison, Texas. Here is where you will find where President Eisenhower lived and spent the first few years of his life. He did move around a lot before his presidency and ended up living in Pennsylvania afterwards.

If you’re looking for a different way to spend your President’s Day Weekend, load up your Johnson Brothers Ford and hit the road.

2015 Ford F150

Ford is making way for the new model year for the F150. We just hit 2014 so it will be a little while until we see it, but the 2015 is on its way. There isn’t a lot of information on it out there right now but there are some things we do know. The style of the truck is something that’s already been seen in the Baja 1000 from the 2013 off-road race. This outstanding new truck is made out of aluminum almost everywhere. The cab and the bed is made from aluminum with steel only making up a few key components of the design. Some of those components are naturally the frame and side-impact beams.

Something we’re betting you didn’t know about the new F150 is that it is ready to plow snow. In models past, this truck wasn’t designed properly for the use with a snow plow. If you’re living in the northern climates where digging your way out of snow is important, this feature is great. Plow away without worrying that your electrical system might be compromised.

We mentioned before that the bed is made of aluminum. We know this leaves many wondering if it would be strong enough for all of the hauling and work that truck beds are made to withstand. Fear not. The bed is actually stronger due to the thicker gauge of aluminum used instead of the heavy steel. The use of aluminum makes the truck more light-weight as well.

One of the most interesting features is the almost flush rear window. Usually the rear window is split into sections to allow it to open in the middle. This window is one solid piece that has an opening in the center which appears to just hover in the middle giving it a magical look. This is a new sleek design that is sure to be more appealing.

Another new feature of this masterpiece is that it isn’t just held together by nuts and bolts. It is also assembled using gluing, riveting and some welding techniques. If you’re thinking of a new work truck or one just to ride around town in, check out the 2015 F150 when it comes to Johnson Brothers Ford. You won’t be disappointed.
