The 2018 Ford Mustang has a Pulse

Ford has revealed a cool little feature on the 2018 Mustang. When you enter your Mustang and get in behind the wheel, the push-to-start engine button will actually pulsate at 30 “beats” a minute.

The button will continue to pulse until you press it and turn the engine over. The rate of 30 beats a minute is, according to Ford, the actual biological resting pulse rate of an adult mustang horse.

The cool biologically-inspired feature is meant to convey a sense of readiness to the 2018 Mustang, as if it’s a living, breathing creature that’s raring to go.

Additionally, as learned in the 2018′s January debut, the 2017′s V-6 engine has been dropped and the 6-speed automatic transmission has been replaced with a new 10-speed unit.

The 2018 Ford Mustang is set to go on sale in dealerships nationwide later this year.

Best Coastal Texas Roadtrip Destinations in Spring

For the upcoming spring break, take a trip through the Texas Gulf Coast in the new vehicle you just picked up from Johnson Bros. Ford. You’ll enjoy seeing wildlife and taking part in recreation without worrying about your vehicle breaking down on you. You’ll find many attractions along the way. If you like to be spontaneous, you might want to check hotels a day or two before you expect to stop for the night as popular places may be booked.

Start in Corpus Christi. You may want to spend a couple days there as the area is filled with tons of attractions and activities including the Texas state aquarium with its Living Shores touch pool, the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, the Bob Hall Pier and the Hans A. Suter Wildlife Park.

Head up to Rockport to charter a small sailboat for a cruise to San Antonio Bay. After a day or two on the water, head up to Fulton. Visit the Fulton Mansion, sing karaoke and visit the Goose Island State Park.

Visit Matagorda Island – 56,000 acres of wildlife refuge and state park. The island is 38 miles long. Look for whooping cranes, migratory birds, white-tailed deer and more. Visit the Matagorda Island lighthouse while you’re there.

Move on to Padre Island National Seashore for over 70 miles of sandy beach. Watch the birds, go fishing, go biking, camping and swimming. And, have fun with beachcombing. You never know what the currents in the Gulf of Mexico will push up on the beach. Just take care of the strong currents.

Be sure to visit South Padre Island for snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, kitboarding and more. Bring the binoculars and cameras to see and shoot some of the 300-plus species of birds. And, visit the lighthouse.

2018 Ford Edge SEL Sport Package Revealed

If you’re planning on buying the 2018 Ford Edge SEL, you’ll be able to choose from a new package to help pump up the profile of the midsize crossover. The new Sport Appearance Package will go on sale this fall and is similar to kits available for the Escape and Explorer. The package adds a selection of cosmetic touches for the mid-range SEL models regardless of which engine they’re equipped with (either the standard 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder or the optional 3.5 V6).

The exterior tweaks in the Edge SEL bring blacked-out headlamp bezels and side window trim set off with Magnetic Metallic-painted finish in the grille surround, front/rear skidplates, mirrors caps and rear spoiler as well as on the 10-spoke/19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the SEL Sport Appearance Package has new Mayan Gray fabric seat upholstery with Umber Miko perforated sueded-cloth inserts and Umber contrast stitching. The Umber theme carries to the “Edge” logo the white carpets while the dash features a distinctive Copper Sands applique.

Ford says the decision to use cloth in place of leather on this higher-end model upgrade reflects the wishes of current Edge customers, primarily those who reside in areas subject to more extreme weather conditions. Price for the new 2018 Ford SEL Sport Appearance Package is $1,295.

What’s New in the 2018 Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta is one of the best-selling compact cars in the U.S. and Ford wants it to remain that way. Though it has a scheduled debut at the Geneva International Motor Show, Ford of Europe went ahead and revealed the 2018 Fiesta recently and announced that it will have a 3-cylinder engine that can put out as much power as the current model’s 4-cylinder engine.

This nixes the rumors that Ford was considering a single-cylinder engine in the 2018 Fiesta. Ford decided instead to give it a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine that produces 197 horsepower. The new model also will be the first Fiesta to have three separate driving modes — Normal, Sport and Track — which alter the responsiveness of the electronic power steering, as well as adjust the engine mapping and stability control. Another first, the new 1.5-liter engine will have cylinder deactivation, that shuts down one of the cylinders for increased efficiency in certain situations.

Ford updated the Fiesta’s exterior styling for 2018, including larger 18-inch wheels. Its redesigned front fascia also looks great, taking styling queues from its predecessor as well as Ford’s newer models.

Inside, Ford will fit the Fiesta with its Sync 3 infotainment system, and a floating touchscreen display that’s similar to what we saw in the pre-production 2018 EcoSport.

Ford Europe said the 2018 Fiesta will be available in early 2018 in both three-door and five-door variants, though Ford likely won’t bring the three-door to the U.S.

A Decadent St. Patrick’s Day Dessert

When most people think of Irish foods, they imagine hearty meals of meat, potatoes, vegetables, and that tasty Irish soda bread. But what many don’t consider is that Ireland is famous for some incredible desserts too. This delicious Irish whiskey cake will add some flair to your St. Patrick’s Day festivities, and there’s no doubt your friends and family will want the recipe for themselves.

Traditional Irish Whiskey Cake

What you’ll need:

2 cups golden raisins
1/4 cup whiskey
3 tablespoons grated lemon zest
3/4 cup butter (softened)
1 cup light brown sugar
3 egg whites
3 egg yolks
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 lemon (juiced)
2 cups confectioner’s sugar

Cooking instructions:

Start by placing the raisins, lemon zest and whiskey in a small bowl to soak overnight.
Line the bottom of an 8-inch cake pan with parchment paper, then butter the paper and dust it with flour.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Sift the flour, cloves, salt and baking powder in a small bowl and set it aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the sugar and butter together until they’re fluffy.
Add the egg yolks into the butter mixture and beat well, then quickly beat the flour into the mixture.
Stir the soaked raisins into the entire mixture.
In a separate mixing bowl, whip the egg whites until they’re stiff, then fold them into the butter mixture.
Pour the entire combination into your prepared baking pan and bake for roughly 50 minutes or until you insert a toothpick into the center of the cake, and it comes out clean.
Cool cake on a wire rack.
Make your glaze by mixing the lemon juice with confectioner’s sugar and just enough warm water and whiskey, so it can be drizzled on top of the cake.
