February Events Near Temple

February is a wonderful month full of fabulous events and activities that the entire family can enjoy. This month holds a lot of important holidays and events including Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras and is also known for Black History Month. Load up the car and take your friends and family to some of these great events near your Temple Ford dealer.

If you don’t have a Super Bowl party to go to, join the community in the ballroom of the Hilton Garden Inn in Temple from 4:30 until 10:30pm. There will be an all you can eat buffet with chips, salsa, hot wings, queso, hot dogs and chili with all the fixings. Admission is just $10 per person for a night of fun and friendship while watching the big game.

The Night in Tuscany ball will be held on Saturday, February 8 from 6pm until midnight. This commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the Caring Ball which benefits the Temple Community Clinic. It will be held at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic & Convention Center. There will be an optional special wine tasting event from 6pm until 7pm with dinner beginning at 8pm. During the dinner and until 10pm there will be a silent auction with fabulous items. Tickets begin at $125 per person.

Spend Valentine’s with your special someone with a Valentine’s Evening Dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn. They will be having a wonderfully elegant menu with a range of options to choose from. The price of admission, which is just $90 for a couple, includes an appetizer to split, entrees for both and a dessert to share. There will also be live entertainment including blues and folk artists. For just a little more, you can indulge in a gorgeous hotel room for the night with chocolate covered strawberries, champagne and a cooked-to-order breakfast in the morning. This spectacular package is just $195 per couple.

Want some laughs on Valentine’s Day? Join the crowd at the Temple Cultural Activities Center on February 14 for the Valentine’s Day Red Carpet Comedy event. Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:30pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The show will be headlined by Micheal Prince, Terry Grossmann and “Blame” The Comedian.

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge

Jump into your Ford from Johnson Brothers and head south to The Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. This area is a park that spreads out over 46,000 acres of secure land for rare species, most of which are birds. This wildlife refuge offers the best experiences for bird watching in Texas. Two endangered song bird species can be seen here; the black-capped vireo and the golden-cheeked warbler.

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Stop by the refuge headquarters to speak with staff and volunteers who will provide you with brochures, maps and checklists and can also update you on what’s going on in the refuge that day.

The refuge is known for hosting many outstanding and educational events throughout the year that are fun for all ages. You can expect anything from guided nature walks to an array of workshops and festivals. The goal is to bring family and friends together for an educational and fun experience of how to further protect the endangered species and habitat of the golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo.

Explore the many miles of trails through the Balcones Canyonsland National Wildlife Refuge. Visit the Shin Oak Observation Deck to spot the black-capped vireo habitat. This is the best public viewing area for the vireos in the refuge. It contains available parking and an observation deck.

Visit Warbler Vista and Sunset Deck on the south side of the refuge. There are 2.5 miles of trails and outstanding sights. Explore three different trails while appreciating the prime golden-cheek warbler habitat. You can cruise through in your Lincoln or hike to the Sunset Deck that offers sights of Lake Travis which provides an excellent opportunity to listen for the golden cheeked warbler among other birds.

Take the kids and head out to Post Oak Creek trail which is a relaxed .4 mile long primitive path that brings you along Post Oak Creek. It offers ideal opportunities to see migratory birds. This easy to walk fun trail is located at the Refuge’s Headquarters so you can’t miss it.

Artist Boat Kayak Tours are devoted to promoting awareness and protection of coastal margins and marine environment. Each public adventure is guided and interpretive via a kayak to places on Galveston’s Bay. This four hour adventure may include a watercolor demonstration providing a chance to create a custom-made souvenir.

Get out of the hot Texas sun and cool down with the spooky Mayfield Haunted Mansion. This haunted house is designed to be silly, fun and spooky! It is said that Dr. Horace Mayfield, a once well-respected doctor, still haunts the residence. His prime study was mental illness of humans. During his time, he performed many experiments on his unwitting patients. His main experiments involved the education of the impact of fearful situations on individuals.
